Core Benefits — Lumé LED Light Therapy Mask
Core benefits

Six reasons Lumé is different.

Not six marketing claims. Six specific design decisions we made in response to what people actually wanted from a home LED mask — and consistently were not getting.

Why these six things

The benefits that actually matter.

The six benefits on this page were not chosen because they sound good in marketing. They were chosen because they are the six things real customers said were missing from the premium LED masks they already owned and paid hundreds of pounds for.

Comfort. Eye safety. Evidence. Honesty. Simplicity. Reliability. Each one addresses a specific, recurring complaint. Each one is a design decision, not a slogan.

If you want to understand where these came from, read our What We Fixed page. If you want to know what the science supports, read our Science and Research page. This page focuses on what Lumé does and why it matters to you.

"A mask that works but cannot be worn is not a mask that works."
The principle behind every benefit on this page.
01

Comfort you will actually use.

Feather-light and face-conforming. No dents. No cheek pressure. No lying perfectly still for ten minutes while something rigid digs into your nose bridge.

The most common reason premium LED masks end up in a drawer is not that they do not work — it is that they are uncomfortable to wear consistently. And consistency is everything with LED therapy.

Flexible silicone polymer Conforms to the shape of your face rather than imposing a rigid fixed structure onto it.
Softened pressure points Designed with care across the nose bridge and cheekbones. No hard edges, no digging.
Upright use Adjustable ear straps designed so you can sit upright during sessions — reading, scrolling, watching TV.

"I use it every evening while reading. I forget it is on. That is the point."

Flexible silicone Upright use No dents
1 The most common reason for abandoning a premium LED mask is comfort, not results.
02

Gentle on eyes, powerful on skin.

Adjustable brightness. Eye-kind LED placement. No harsh glare, no burning, no headaches. LED therapy should improve your skin, not make you need to lie in a dark room afterwards.

Lumé's LEDs are independently tested under IEC 62471, achieving Exempt Group classification — the safest possible rating — at every tested intensity level. You can also adjust the brightness to a level that suits your eyes specifically.

Adjustable brightness Multiple intensity settings. You choose the level that works for your eyes, not the maximum the device produces.
IEC 62471 Exempt Group All tested LED components achieved the safest possible photobiological safety classification. Full reports published on Lumé Verified.
Eye cover included Optional additional comfort for those who prefer extra protection during sessions.
Exempt IEC 62471 photobiological safety classification for all tested wavelengths. The safest possible rating.
Adjustable Brightness settings via controller unit. Not fixed at maximum intensity.

Evidence-backed wavelengths.

Red, near-infrared, blue, and yellow wavelengths chosen based on published clinical research, not trends. We explain the evidence for each wavelength — including where it is strong, where it is limited, and where more research is needed.

Our Science page shows the full evidence summary for each wavelength with ratings of Strong, Moderate, or Limited. We include studies with mixed or negative results, not just the ones that support our position.

Red (630nm) — Strong evidence Most extensively studied wavelength in photobiomodulation research. Multiple RCTs with positive signals for tone, texture, and fine lines.
Near-infrared (850nm) — Moderate to strong Well-established cellular mechanism. Studied for skin recovery and radiance, particularly in combination with red light.
Blue (460nm) — Moderate to strong Clear bactericidal mechanism targeting acne-associated bacteria. Studied in multiple published trials including home-use settings.
Yellow (590nm) — Limited Promising early research for skin tone balance and redness. Evidence is less robust. We say this clearly, not just where the evidence is strongest.

Honest guidance for real skin.

LED therapy is not right for everyone. We tell you who it is not suitable for — clearly, prominently, before you buy — even when that costs us a sale.

If you have melasma, highly reactive rosacea, photosensitivity, or are on photosensitising medications, we recommend consulting a dermatologist before using Lumé or any LED device. This guidance appears on every relevant page of our site, not buried in terms and conditions.

Suitability guidance on every page Not hidden. Not in fine print. Present wherever a purchase decision might be made.
Dedicated Skincare Concerns guide Six skin concerns covered in detail, including when to consult a dermatologist and what the evidence shows for each.
Honest timelines 4 to 6 weeks to notice early improvements. 8 to 12 weeks for more structural changes. We set this expectation before purchase, not after.

"We would rather lose a sale than worsen a customer's skin."

This is not a slogan. It is a design principle that shaped every page of this website and every decision about what to say and what not to say.

Simple routines, real consistency.

Ten minutes, three to five times per week. Four clearly named modes. Plain English instructions. No competing frequencies for different settings. One routine that works.

Complexity is one of the most common reasons premium LED masks become cupboard tech. Devices people cannot easily understand are devices people stop using. And a device that is not used cannot deliver results.

Four named modes Red. NIR. Yellow. Blue. Named after the wavelength, not a number or a code. No user manual needed to understand which mode does what.
One consistent routine Ten minutes, three to five sessions per week. The same recommendation regardless of which mode you use. No conflicting guidance.
Plain English instructions Large, readable typography. Designed to be followed on first use without referencing anything else. Four steps.
10 Minutes per session. That is all. Set the timer, relax, and let it work.
3–5× Per week. Consistency over intensity. A sustainable routine outperforms sporadic heavy use every time.
4 Named modes. No numbers. No codes. No confusion.
06

Built to last.

Reliable LEDs, quality materials, and an 18-month warranty designed around real skin timelines rather than the legal minimum. A 30-day return window that gives you time to genuinely evaluate the product before committing.

We chose 18 months specifically because 12 months is the legal minimum and we think the legal minimum is not enough for a device where visible results develop over 8 to 12 weeks of consistent use.

18-month warranty Covers manufacturing defects and component failures under normal use. Good faith claims handling. No battle to prove the fault is ours.
30-day returns Not 14 days. Because meaningful skin assessment requires more than two weeks. You need time to start a routine before deciding.
Personal customer service All warranty and returns queries handled personally. No ticket systems, no automated replies, no passing you between teams.
