Science-led
personal care,
without the hype.
Lumé was built on a simple idea: that honest, evidence-based skincare technology shouldn't cost a fortune, and that brands should tell you what their products can't do — not just what they can.
"We'd rather lose a sale than mislead a customer."
We read hundreds of negative LED mask reviews.
Then built the opposite.
The LED mask market is full of brands making claims they can't back up, charging prices that bear no relation to what's inside the box, and burying important safety information in fine print nobody reads.
We read the reviews. The complaints were consistent: rigid shells that dented noses, blinding lights that burned eyes, warranties that expired before the device did, and marketing that promised visible results in days when the biology simply doesn't work that way.
We took every complaint and made it a design requirement. The result is Lumé — the same clinically studied wavelengths as premium masks costing two to three times more, built around what real people actually need from a home LED device.
No miracle claims. No manufactured urgency. No terms designed to protect us at the expense of you.
The thought that started it
"Surely someone can do better than this."
What we found
"The same complaints, across hundreds of reviews, for products costing £200 to £500."
What we built
"A mask designed from the complaints backward — not the marketing brief forward."
Three things we will never compromise on.
Transparency
We publish our test documentation, acknowledge evidence limitations, and tell you who LED therapy isn't right for — even when it costs us a sale. Transparency is not a marketing strategy. It's the minimum standard.
Evidence
Every claim we make references published science. We tell you where the evidence is strong, where it's limited, and where more research is needed. We don't inflate the science to sell more products.
Fairness
Professional-grade LED wavelengths at a price that reflects the actual cost of the technology, not a luxury premium. Fair pricing is part of what makes Lumé honest — not just a commercial decision.
Built on the things most brands avoid.
We publish test reports, unedited
Third-party laboratory results from independent accredited labs are published in full on our Lumé Verified page. Not summaries. Not badges. The actual documents — methodology, data, conclusions.
We tell you who LED isn't for
If you have melasma, highly reactive rosacea, photosensitivity, or are on photosensitising medications, we'll tell you clearly — before you buy. We don't bury this in fine print.
We rate our own evidence honestly
On our science pages, yellow light is marked as "limited evidence" because the research is limited. We don't inflate the evidence base for our own benefit.
We set honest timelines
LED therapy works over 4–8 weeks of consistent use, not overnight. We say that clearly, upfront, on every page — not buried after the purchase decision has been made.
We stay within compliant language
Lumé is a cosmetic device. We use cosmetic claims throughout — "brighter-looking" not "treats ageing," "studied for" not "clinically proven to." This is the correct approach, and we follow it without exception.
We designed around real complaints
Every feature decision was driven by what real customers said was wrong with existing LED masks — comfort, eye safety, ease of use, reliability. Not market trends or marketing briefs.
What you can always expect from Lumé.
These aren't aspirational values — they're operational commitments. If we ever fall short of any of these, we want to hear about it.
View our test reports →No unsubstantiated claims
Every claim we make is backed by published research or is an honest cosmetic description of appearance and experience. Nothing more.
Published test documentation
Third-party safety and compliance reports are published in full. You can read them, download them, and verify them independently.
Honest contraindication guidance
We tell you who LED therapy is not suitable for — including conditions where it could cause harm — before the purchase decision, not after.
Realistic result timelines
We set honest expectations about when you'll notice improvements. We don't promise overnight results that the biology doesn't support.
Fair warranty and returns
18-month device warranty and 30-day returns — designed around real skin timelines, not our cash flow.
Regulatory clarity
Lumé is a cosmetic device, not a medical device. In May 2025, we contacted the MHRA directly to confirm our regulatory position. Their response confirmed that products marketed only for cosmetic use without medical claims do not fall under UK Medical Devices Regulations.
MHRA Ref: CEC 254471Why we sought confirmation
We didn't wait for a problem to arise. We proactively contacted the MHRA before launch because operating in a grey area — even unknowingly — is not consistent with the kind of brand Lumé is. Our cosmetic-only claims approach is confirmed in writing, and that letter is on file.
The relevant enforcement body for our product is Trading Standards via the OPSS, operating under consumer protection legislation.
We'll tell you if Lumé isn't right for you.
Most brands don't include this on their About page. We do because we think it matters — and because it's the kind of information that should be easy to find.
